Ardrossan residents are living in fear from drunk teenagers smashing windows and climbing on cars, according to a local pensioner.

Two members of the public approached the Herald this week with concerns over antisocial behaviour around the North Shore area.

One resident, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of being targeted, claimed to have had her window smashed by youths throwing stones.

The pensioner said: “I heard this awful banging. My window, it was completely shattered. They don’t realise the consequences. That’s going to cost me £100.

“There are youths going round Ardrossan breaking windows and jumping on cars drinking bottles of wine and cider. This happens every time the schools are off. They hang around from Glasgow Street to Eglinton Road. They take the side roads so the police can’t see them.

“It’s quite frightening, especially when there’s about 15 of them. You sit at night and wonder are they going to come tonight. There’s no police around to do anything. I blame the council as well because there’s nothing for them to do.”

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “2018 is the Year of the Young People and we are seeing a whole range of fun events being laid on in addition to the large number of activities we routinely offer.

“Many of our activities – such as Cashback to the Future, our summer arts programme for 12 to 19-year-olds, and our Gamers Club – are completely free.

“While many of these events are advertised locally in places such as the library, a fuller list of can be found at www.northayrshire.community/events and we would encourage as many young people as possible to find out more.”

Police Scotland said that anyone concerned about antisocial behaviour should contact police on 101.
