THE annual 5k Walk at Eglinton Park for people recovering from heart attacks was held last Sunday morning in Eglinton Park.

The average age of participants was approaching 70 and they proved that a gradual exercise programme aids recovery from a heart attack.

Everyone taking part on Sunday was part of the Phase 4 Cardiac Class which meets twice a week at The Douglas Grant Centre at Ayrshire Central.

The class is for those who have had a heart attack and have completed Phase 3 of the recovery programme. The classes are supported and supervised by NHA Ayrshire & Arran Physios, two of whom were at Sunday’s event.

The Cardiac Class gives people the opportunity to meet and talk to others with similarexperience of heart problems, improves general fitness, strengthens the heart muscle and helps boost confidence. It’s also a lot of fun.

The 5K Walk by the Cardiac Class is now an established fixture on the Phase 4 calendar as it clearly demonstrates to the participants and their nearest and dearest that they are indeed recovering.
