A Saltcoats couple married at the place of their first date – a 1980s themed music festival in Perth.

Michelle Slater and William Colville tied the knot at Rewind Festival last weekend after winning a competition on social media.

Michelle said the pair chose to marry at the Scone Palace venue “because it was a special place, it was our first real date. It was also Rewind’s 10th anniversary, so it was celebrations all round.”

She added: “I’ve been coming to Rewind for nine years. We had our first date at Rewind. We’ve been together five years. We met at a funeral! We were talking online and I told him I went to Rewind and he bought us tickets.”

Despite having recently undergone a heart bypass, Michelle’s dad was able to dance his daughter down the aisle to Meatloaf’s Dead Ringer for Love.

Michelle and William exchanged their vows in a ceremony conducted by Humanist celebrant Lenny Love.

The new Mr and Mrs Colville then left the inflatable church to the ringing of Billy Idol’s White Wedding. The couple’s first dance, to Maria McKee’s Show Me Heaven, was enjoyed in the festival’s Big Top tent.

Michelle said: “We won a competition for a fake wedding on Facebook – inside an inflatable church, first dance in the Big Top and a champagne meal for two.

“I contacted the organisers at Rewind to have it for real. We had humanist Lenny Love to legally marry us at the place where we began as a couple and with all our Rewinders who make it special and meet every year.

“It was totally packed. I had five bridesmaids.

“My dad was actually recovering from heart surgery, but he still managed to dance me down the aisle. My mum and dad travelled up to Perth and the organisers let them in. It was a great time, fantastic.”
