STAFF at an opticians in Saltcoats and their families recently completed a sponsored walk around Millport in aid of Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

The team at Specsavers have raised £257 so far but with fundraising continuing in-store throughout July, they hope to reach a target of £500.

Customers can make donations at the Dockhead Street opticians and for every eye test that takes place throughout the month, £1 will be donated.

The UK charity is dedicated to beating lung cancer through research, support and prevention. It aims to help individuals who are currently suffering or have been diagnosed with lung cancer – every donation counts.

The sponsored walk saw members of staff with their families and friends walk the 10.25mile circumference of the Isle of Cumbrae.

Alistair Ferdinand, store director at Specsavers Saltcoats, said: ‘We chose the Roy Castle Foundation in honour of Specsavers director, Tom Simpson, who sadly died in March 2018 after battling lung cancer. We feel by continuing to fundraise for this cause, it’s a fitting tribute to Tom.

“The sponsored walk was a fun way for our team and their families to spend time together while raising money for this very worthy cause. Thank you to everyone that has donated so far and we hope with continued fundraising in store we will reach our £500 target.”
