NORTH Ayrshire Council will host a special meeting for EU citizens to discuss the impact of Brexit on their right to live, work, study or retire in Scotland.

They have teamed up with The Scottish Government and of South Ayrshire and East Ayrshire councils for the event.

Hosted by a Scottish Government Minister and the council leaders, the event will take place on Tuesday, August 7 at Cunninghame House, Irvine from 6.45pm (registration) until 8.30pm.

The event forms part of a series of engagement sessions which are taking place throughout Scotland. Aimed at EU and European Economic Area (EEA) citizens living in Scotland, the events are also open to anyone who has an interest in supporting EU/EEA citizens or is affected by these issues.

Guests will have the opportunity to hear more about the Scottish Government’s policy approach to immigration and the movement of EU citizens following Brexit, and how the councils are supporting EU citizens.

Michael Russell, Cabinet Secretary for Government Business and Constitutional Relations, said: “Scotland is an outward facing and diverse country, with a long history or welcoming the world to visit, live, work and invest in Scotland, and to build their lives here with their families.

“We recognise that this is a difficult time for many EU citizens living in Scotland who may be concerned about their future rights and status. The Scottish Government and Ayrshire councils want to hear more about the experiences and concerns of EU citizens since the EU Referendum, and how this is impacting on their lives.”
