Dancers from North Ayrshire followed in the footsteps of stars recently when they got the chance to boogie on Broadway.

Members of Maria Marshall Dance Crew (MMDC), based in Beith, showcased their talents in the Big Apple with Smile Productions’ New York Summer Trip.

A total of 189 young performers, all selected by audition and representing nine dance schools, took part in the five-day trip.

Dance teacher Maria Marshall described the experience as “a lifetime opportunity”.

She said: “The girls had to send in a video audition tape to be chosen to go to New York. We then held auditions within the studio, and out of 40 kids we had to narrow it down to 15 to take with us.

“They then spent the full year fundraising £1,000 per person to get there.

“The kids had an absolute ball! They got to dance on Broadway, a once in a lifetime opportunity that not many dancers can say they have done.

“I am so incredibly proud of every single one of them, they danced their hearts out.”

Following the event, Sharon Collins-McGee, founder of Smile Productions, posted on Facebook: “The talent on that stage and the effort put in by everyone was just stunning!”
