LOCAL scouts had a great summer experience when they visited the Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland.

On July 13, Scouts and Explorer Scouts from the Three Towns partnered up with Scouts and Explorer Scouts from Dennistoun in Glasgow to spend 10 days at the centre.

They took part in many adventurous activities including glacier climbing, canyoning, white water rafting, hiking, climbing, dry tobaggon run, swimming in a glaciated lake and zip lining.

They met up with up to 900 Scouts from all over the world and took part in an international night where they experienced activities from the countries of the Scouts visiting the centre.

On the international night, the Three Towns Scouts gave the other counties a taste of Scotland with haggis, oatcake, tablet and macaroon bars.

They also gave out tartan ribbons and exchanged badges with the others.

There was also an international camp fire as well as other international Scouting events.

The weather was very kind except for one night when they were bombarded with giant hailstones during a freak thunderstorm.

The Scouts had a great time and are already looking forward to returning there in the near future.

Thanks go to the leaders, particularly George Lynch, for organising this successful event.
