PUPILS at Ardrossan Academy are enjoying the benefits of a working partnership with a local business.
The school’s partnership with SimpsInns sees the students benefit from hands-on kitchen experience in the busy restaurants and hotels while getting paid.
It also helps pupils gain full time employment during holidays or secure weekend work.
The initiative was set up by Victoria McNicol, Home Economics teacher at the school, who has over 30 years’ experience in the hospitality industry.
On a recent parents’ night, Victoria met Gavin McGill, executive head chef for the SimpsInns Group in Ayrshire.
The pair got talking about how they could develop links and encourage school pupils to work in the industry.
Victoria said of the partnership: “It gives pupils a real sense of work in the hospitality industry, which they may decide to pursue as their careers long term.
“This partnership between Ardrossan Academy and SimpsInns is just the beginning. It is hoped any barriers into the hospitality can be broken down by providing first-hand experience for the Academy pupils.
“SimpsInns also has the opportunity to attract good people to become part of their team and drive the business forward.”
