Residents have complained about the apparent mess of the streets and waterways in Ardrossan.

Two members of the public contacted the Herald this week, one about the weeds and rubbish in the streets, another about the state of Stanley Burn.

Mum of four Lorraine Guthrie said: “Broadway is horrific with weeds growing up from drains. Why can’t they weed the pavements? It’s just an absolute eyesore. Parkview is the same. It looks like the Bronx, an absolute midden. There’s litter everywhere, there was an upturned bin.

“People shouldn’t have to go out and weed public walkways.

“I complained to the council and all they did was send me a link to how often they do things. It said that twice a year they spray the weeds. What are they spending their money on?”

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous was upset at the rubbish in Stanley Burn.

He said: “It’s a pity to see it go to ruin. It’s like a wasteland now. There’s really long grass, dead trees, the water’s disgusting with a lot of rubbish. What do we pay our council tax for?”

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “Our Streetscene team work in every community across North Ayrshire to keep the area looking its best. We will investigate the areas in question and will monitor them in the weeks and months ahead.

“In the meantime, residents can always report any issues to our Customer Contact Centre on 01294 310000. These will then be investigated and acted upon as required.”
