PUPILS and teachers were not the only ones to return to school this week with the Campus Cops joining them at six secondary schools.

The police officers based in our local schools returned earlier in the year after discussions between Police Scotland and North Ayrshire Council.

On Thursday, August 16, Campus Police Officers and those undertaking a School Liaison Officer role in North Ayrshire, met at Irvine Police Office, where they shared best practice and received inputs from an Educational Psychologist and the local Choose Life Coordinator.

Locality Policing Inspector, Colin Convery, said: “Working in partnership with North Ayrshire Council we now have Campus Police Officers at six secondary schools in North Ayrshire and members of our Locality Policing Teams who undertake School Liaison duties at the others.

“Today we met to discuss their role, to share best practice and to learn more about key topics and how we can all work together to support our young people here in North Ayrshire.

“We will continue to work with our partners, young people and their parents/carers. I would encourage anyone with any specific concerns to make contact with their Campus or School Liaison Officer through the school or by calling us on 101.”
