TRAFFIC was diverted from a busy Ardrossan road for over an hour when a level crossing barrier malfunctioned.
The barrier at Ardrossan Town Station failed to rise after it had been lowered to allow a train to pass at Princes Street on Tuesday, August 21.
A Network Rail spokeswoman said later that day: “At around 6.30am, Network Rail received reports that one barrier on Ardrossan Princes Street level crossing had remained in the down position after a train had passed.
“As the barrier system was not working correctly, for safety reasons, the red road lights continued to flash instructing road users and pedestrians not to cross.
“Engineers arrived on site at around 8am to investigate and the fault was repaired shortly after. There was no impact on services.”
