A social club for people over 50 is reaching out to members of the community to join them ahead of their new session.

The Three Towns Opportunities in Retirement (OIR) returns next month, with the first meeting on Thursday, September 6 at 12.45pm in Ardrossan Civic Centre.

Anyone over 50 and local to the area is welcome to attend, meet the group leaders, find out more information and enjoy a cuppa and chat. The group offers a varied weekly programme of activities, mainly held in Ardrossan Civic Centre.

Wendy Sneider, chairperson of the Three Towns OIR, said: “Chance to Dance on a Monday morning continues to prove popular and with the aid of a grant from the NAC Participatory Budgeting scheme we have introduced an alternative session – Dance with Lui on a Tuesday at 1pm.

“Walking on a Wednesday continues throughout the year with an interesting and varied programme to suit various levels of fitness and interest. We took part in Age Scotland’s Virtual Munro Challenge this year and completed all the Munros 3.7 times which is equivalent to 1,552 miles!

“Walking football on a Friday is different. We had a visit from Patricia Gibson MP as part of Age Scotland’s Loneliness Campaign which we had signed up to.

“If physical exercise isn’t your thing then we have dominoes, scrabble and a knit and natter group on Thursdays. This year we knitted baby jackets for a Malawi project.

“New members are always welcome, come along and give it a try, it’s most enjoyable.”

Annual membership is £5 and individual activity fees remain modest.
