A MAN who went on a drunken window-smashing rampage in Saltcoats is facing jail.

Dylan Scott was caught on CCTV in the early hours of March 17 this year as he walked home drunk following a night of drinking with friends.

Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard CCTV operatives noticed the 23-year-old as he made his way down Dockhead Street and observed him kicking and smashing a glass door of the Vaporized shop in Chapelwell Street.

Scott, of Darg Road in Stevenston, continued on to Green Street where he was intercepted by police just outside of the homeless shelter.

But when officers informed he was being arrested for vandalism Scott began struggling and headbutted the police car windscreen which resulted in it smashing.

The fiscal told the court: “He was placed in the vehicle and attempted to assault the police officer who was sitting beside him. The accused attempted to headbutt the officer and had to be physically restrained until he was transferred to a cell van.”

Defending Scott, Peter Murray said his client was remorseful for his actions, which the court heard resulted £400-worth of damage.

He said: “He had been out with friends and had far too much to drink. He is at a loss to explain why he conducted himself in this manner.”

Sheriff McFarlane told Scott she would be keeping all options open, adding: “I’m going to get a report because fining you will only impact your young family, but you will be paying for the damage you caused so start saving.”
