THE Ardrossan Coastguard Team were part of a multi-agency operation last week after reports of a man in distress in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Shortly after 1am, the team were called out after a 999 call from a man in need of help. His exact location was unknown but information from the mobile phone placed him on the coast between Ardrossan and Seamill.

An initial search was unsuccessful and other agencies, including Troon and Largs Lifeboat teams, Largs Coastguard and Police Scotland, were conducting enquiries and a call was received to say the man was within the car park of the Ardrossan Ferry Terminal.

When the Coastguard arrived he was found to be sitting on the harbour wall there but came off of his own accord and was left in the care of Police Scotland.

A Coastguard spokesperson said: “This morning’s incident highlights the continued excellent partnership working between all emergency services with a successful outcome to a complex incident.
