THE sister of the late Tony Lowey is planning to build his legacy and help other families who have suffered when people have went missing.

Tony went missing from his home in Ardrossan at the end of 2017 and was sadly found dead in Irvine in March of this year.

Now his sister Joanne and her partner Andy plan to use music to raise money, raise awareness and help others who have had family members who have went or are still missing.

‘Missing’ will be a series of five live music events taking place throughout October and November in the Labour Club in Saltcoats and a number of bands have signed up.

The couple told the Herald: “We are planning a five week show, running on five Sundays from 2-8pm and it is to get acoustic bands, singers and players but it is to raise funds for the families of missing people and a memorial for Tony.

“The first show will be Sunday, October 21 and every week until November 18.”

There will be bands from up and down the country and around 20 acts have already shown interest, with Joanne and Andy looking for another 20 or so to get involved.

It is hoped that the shows can help families that have been left without closure.

The couple added: “We will display some of these people on posters and t-shirts for the campaign for awareness of others who are still missing.”

Joanne said: “I wanted to put a bit of fun into it all. It is music that has helped me cope, because I am a singer. This is helping me channel my energy and grief to make something fun for the community. Tony would have loved it because he loved music.”

Local businesses are helping with printing, raffle prizes and auction items. Half of the money raised will go to the families and half to Tony’s memorial.

Joanne said: “I was taken to the spot where he was found. It has taken me all this time to get the courage. There is a wee spot where there is a stream and hopefully we can get a wee bench for us as a family to go there.”
