A Kilwinning councillor is calling on North Ayrshire Council to carry out a review of street lighting near bus stops on Pennyburn Road.
SNP Councillor Scott Davidson has visited the location on several occasions during darkness after concerns from residents, and has also carried out a survey of all lighting at the bus stops on the Pennyburn ring road. He has reported several faulty street lights hoping these will be fixed this week and will raise the issue at this week’s Full Council Meeting.
Cllr Davidson said: “Several female constituents have contacted me to raise their concerns about the lighting, mainly regarding the bus stop at the Cambusdoon Place junction.
“The lighting is inadequate and they have told me that they do not feel safe while waiting for buses. The situation is made worse by the bushes behind and the proximity to the railway tunnel which hit the headlines following incidents of robbery last year.”
“It is important that the residents of Kilwinning and all our towns feel safe while waiting for transport.”
