A WORKMAN is fighting for his life after being electrocuted at Kilwinning Academy today.

The horrifying incident happened in front of other workmen and staff this morning as the contractor was carrying out repairs at the secondary school.

A source told our sister title the Irvine Times the workman had to be resuscitated at the school.

He said: "He was in a bad way. He went blue and had to get resuscitated there and then. They were working on him for a while and the last I heard he hadn't regained consciousness."

"Emergency Services were attended and the victim was taken to Crosshouse Hospital by ambulance where medical staff described his condition as serious.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “We can confirm that there was an incident this morning involving an electrician working on behalf of a contractor carrying out work at Kilwinning Academy.

“Our immediate thoughts are with the gentleman and an investigation is already under way into the cause of the incident.

“No-one else was injured and, as this part of the school was accessible only to authorised personnel at the time, there was no danger to any of our pupils.”
