THE survey into traffic and parking in Saltcoats town centre has been extended to allow as many members of the public as possible to have their say.

Councillor Jean McClung, SNP member for Saltcoats, is pleased with the level of response to this survey to date but hopes more people will get involved.

Councillor McClung said: “There has been a great deal of interest in this survey and there is strong feeling within the community about the dangers inherent in the current traffic-management system in Saltcoats town centre.

“Just this week a constituent reported having been hit by a car emerging from Green Street onto the pedestrianised area of Dockhead Street. The incident has been reported to local police. Fortunately, this gentleman was not seriously injured, but my fear is that if this had been a child or elderly person the consequences could have been far more serious.

“I also realise, of course, that the wishes of blue-badge holders have to be considered, so it is important to have as wide a range of opinions as possible.

“I have left paper copies of the survey in both Saltcoats and Ardrossan libraries, Saltcoats Town Hall and The Studio Cobbler, the proprietor of which has a keen interest in the local community.”

The survey can also be filled in online through the Saltcoats Community Council Facebook and website. Go to: www.saltcoatscommunitycouncil.org

Cllr McClung added: “I must congratulate the Community Council on their work in promoting this survey. I believe this is a perfect example of grassroots involvement in the local community.”
