A NEW Men’s Shed for the Three Towns officially launched with an open day at its new premises in Saltcoats.

The drop-in event for the Three Towns Men’s Shed took place on Wednesday, October 3 and was a huge success, with lots of interest from members of the community.

Representatives from Asda Ardrossan were also at the open day to hand over a £913.68 donation to the shed.

The new group, which is run by local volunteers, is supported by North Ayrshire Council and NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

Donald McLarty, secretary of the Three Towns Men’s Shed, thanked everyone who supported the open day, adding: “It went like a fair all day, it was excellent.”

A Men’s Shed is a place where men aged 18 and over can relax over a cuppa, play cards, have a laugh with new friends or work on creative projects, such as woodworking.

The overall strategy is to benefit the whole community and to give men an opportunity to learn or pass on skills which can give a fresh purpose to living in the Three Towns. Activities will be tailored to meet the interests of those who come along.

The Three Towns Men’s Shed will meet on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 10am-3pm in the Focus Community Learning Centre in Saltcoats.
