A piece of Three Town’s history has sold for almost £2,000 on eBay and will help children at Christmas.

As the Herald reported last week, the iconic Metro nightclub sign was listed on eBay by local businessman Roger Woods after he rescued it from the skip.

The Art Deco sign received 65 bids on eBay, eventually selling for £1,910 to Scott and Sharon Ross from Glasgow. Roger, director of Ardrossan-based Invincible Fire and Security, will now donate the money raised from the sale to Women’s Aid and the charity’s Christmas Appeal.

He told the Herald: “It’s a girl, Sharon Ross from Glasgow, she’s got connections with the place and she was keen to get it.

“Jagtar from Premier Stores who owns the Metro building, he asked us to take it down because of safety. It was physically in the skip.

“Jagtar has a wee collection in store for the Women’s Aid and children’s Christmas presents, so we thought we’d donate it to them.”
