WEST Scotland Labour MSP Neil Bibby was in the area Kilbirnie to meet local constituency Labour Party members and update them on his Parliamentary efforts to hold the SNP Government to account for their failures.

Problems with local transport were prominent with Mr Bibby criticising the lack of investment by the SNP in local roads, ferry and bus services as well as the railways.

Addressing issues such as the availability of car parking at train stations as well as quality of train services given recent fare increases of 3.2 per cent.

Mr Bibby said: “The Scottish Government are failing to enforce Abellio’s contract to run services given the extremely poor performance of Scotrail. Unlike the SNP, Labour will renationalise the railways to place people’s services – including new commuter car parking facilities – ahead of rail company profits and the exploitation of commuters.

“I am also calling for greater regulation of bus services and the devolution of this authority to local councils.

“This is vital in order to increase accessibility and affordability for bus passengers

“Issues such as transport for children to and from school and regular bus services for hospital appointments are issues that need to be addressed as these are common problems for my constituents across North Ayrshire under the SNP”.

Mr Bibby also criticised the Arran Ferry ‘debacle’ and said it was a scandal that the Glen Sannox was still under construction despite SNP promises that it would be in service by now.

“This episode is all too typical of SNP incompetence and it’s about time the SNP MSP Kenneth Gibson stood up for North Ayrshire against the SNP Government’s neglect of the area.

“It is a dereliction of duty to the people of North Ayrshire that the SNP’s lack of investment in road infrastructure has delayed the Dalry bypass for twelve years. Originally included in Labour’s roads programme in 2007 – with STAG appraisal carried out in 2006 – it is only now being built by this incompetent SNP administration more than 10 years after they came to power whilst money earmarked for North Ayrshire went to improve roads elsewhere in Scotland.

“North Ayrshire is always at the end of the queue with the SNP”, said Mr Bibby.

“Labour are calling for the dualling of the A737 to open up North Ayrshire to the Glasgow economy and wider West of Scotland and improve the local economy which has gone into decline under the SNP."
