A GROUP of up to 30 vandals caused substantial damage to a local junior football team when they broke in on Saturday night, October 22.

The gates and hospitality suite at Ardeer Juniors’ stadium were left damaged and strewn with glasses, broken bottles and cigarette ends as the yobs descended on the Stevenston club’s ground.

The club’s Chairman, Peter McBlain, told the Herald that it is a lot of damage for a small club, he said: “They smashed the padlocks, broke into the hospitality and left all their bottles and fag ends all over the floor.

“We have contacted the police and they are looking into it. We reckon there was about 30 of them, they left bottles on the park.

“Damage has cost us about £200 to £300 which is a lot of money for a wee club like ours.

“We have stepped up the security around the ground but the last time we put up CCTV it got wrecked.”

Police confirmed that they are looking into the incident and ask anyone with any information to contact Saltcoats Police Office on 101.
