THE top players in the redevelopment of Ardrossan Harbour were in town last week at the engagement event – and they are now using feedback to push on with the multi-million pound investment.

Peel Ports, Transport Scotland, Calmac, CMAL and North Ayrshire Council were all on hand to speak about their specific roles in the work being carried out.

A Peel Ports spokesperson said: “In April 2017, the Scottish Minister confirmed that Ardrossan was selected as the mainland port for the Arran Kintyre service.

“A Ministerial Task Force, the Ardrossan Harbour Task Force, was set up to develop proposals and deliver plans for the harbour upgrade, improving the facilities, operations and service resilience. Peel Ports Group as the Ardrossan Harbour owner and operator and the Harbour Authority is an active partner in the Task Force.

“We were delighted to see such a large turnout of people at both the Arran and Ardrossan meetings. Those who came along were very well informed and, on the whole, pleased with the progress. The investment will improve accessibility, quality and resilience of service for the mainland and island communities.

“The comments received at the engagement events will be used to inform partners as we continue to move ahead with the exciting plans for Ardrossan Harbour.”

A Transport Scotland spokesman said: “The Ardrossan Taskforce has developed proposals and identified a preferred option to upgrade the harbour, which will improve the facility’s operations and resilience. Preparatory works for site investigations and technical studies are already underway.

“It has been very encouraging to see a good turnout and more of these engagements will be held to keep local communities informed.”
