EARLIER this month, The Ayrshire Community Trust hosted two cooking on a budget sessions in the Argyle Community Centre.

The sessions in Saltcoats were aimed at anyone on a low income interested in learning how to cook easy recipes for family meals on a tight budget.

All the participants who took part really enjoyed it and really took something away from it (not just the food).

They managed to cook a three course meal to feed four to six people for just £4.11! (That’s 69p per person for all three courses).

They cooked up a vegetable soup, pasta bake and good old apple and pear crumble for the pudding and they were able to source some of the fruit from their Community Garden Project which was brilliant to use community grown fruit.

Cheryl from, TACT said: “A huge thank you to everyone who took part and to the staff and volunteers from The Ayrshire Community Trust that helped on the day, Recovery at work for donating time and food and the Argyle centre cooking group for allowing us to use their equipment. We couldn’t have done it without any of you.”

The Argyle Community Centre has a Cooking group each Monday anyone interested in attending should call Brian Keenan on 07761696170 to find out more.
