One resident in Dalry got the surprise of her life when a team from People’s Postcode Lottery knocked on her door with a cheque for £30,000 in hand.

Local pub owner Jane Horn, 74, received the prize when her postcode was announced as the winner of the Street Prize on Saturday, October 27.

Upon seeing the five figure sum written on the cheque, Jane couldn’t contain her excitement and exclaimed: “Wow – there are just no words to describe this. It will make such a big difference to my life and that of my family too – I can’t wait to see their faces when I tell them how much I’ve won.”

The win has come at a great time for Jane who is about to call last orders on her time at the pub by retiring.

She said, “I’m in the process of selling the pub which has been quite stressful, so it’s great to have some lovely news and this will be a great boost to my retirement fund. I think an automatic car is also on the agenda as I’ve got arthritis in my knees and hips and have been struggling with the gears in my current one. I’ll be able to start thinking about doing things that I wouldn’t have thought about before because now I’ve got a wee bit of money to treat myself with.

“It’s going to take a while to sink in. I think it might hit me later when I’m not thinking about anything else and I’ll need to say to myself: ‘No Jane you’ve not been dreaming, this really did happen!’”

Presenting Jane with her cheque was People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Matt Johnson. He said: “It was an incredible pleasure to travel to lovely Scotland and hand deliver Jane’s prize to her door. It sounds like she’s really going to be able to enjoy her retirement with her family now. Happy days!”
