KILWINNING’S annual fireworks display went off with a bang this week - drawing one of its biggest ever crowds.

Thousands of families descended on McGavin Park to watch the sky light up for the Bonfire Night celebrations.

Thousands of people filled the park on Sunday night with hundreds more lining the streets and watching from houses and gardens in the surrounding area.

The event kicked off at 4.15pm when revellers arrived to enjoy the fairground rides and entertainment on stage from local musical artists as well as free balloon art and fire acts.

Despite the wet weather of the previous night, the night stayed clear and dry for the fireworks, which proved to be the biggest hit of the night.

Kilwinning Community Events Committee thanked everyone who came to the event and appealed for more volunteers to get involved next year, saying: “This event costs a lot to put on so please if you didn’t manage to donate you to use if you can via our Facebook page. We need volunteers to help us organise in 2019. Although for now thank you to the thousands that turned out.”
