A local mum has branded flytipping at Stevenston Beach Park “disgusting”.

Yvonne Campbell is fed up with people dumping waste on the beauty spot and worries that her dogs might injure their paws.

She said: “It’s disgusting, the other day there was even dirty nappies. It’s shocking. It seems to be all over that beach park.

“I was there the other day with my two dogs and you’ve got to watch where the dogs are running because there’s broken glass.

“They’re just rats the people who do that. It’s getting ridiculous.

“I don’t know what we can do to stop this. It’s a shame because it’s such a nice place to go and clear your head and then you see that.”

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “Thank you for bringing this to our attention. To report environmental crimes such as fly-tipping, littering and dog fouling, contact the team on 01294 310000. This area is being cleared on Tuesday.

“Fly-tipping is a crime which we take very seriously and we are determined to reduce the impact this has on communities across North Ayrshire.

“Our Environmental Enforcement team regularly patrol hot-spots and issue fixed-penalty notices. We would warn people that do dump their rubbish that we have ways of tracing this back and can start legal proceedings if we gather enough evidence.

“We would urge anyone with information to please get in touch and we will investigate thoroughly.”
