A COURT has heard how a man more than double the drink-drive limit was seen swerving from lane to lane by police before he was arrested.

Jorge Ferreira, 46, was driving his Hyundai Santa Fe along the Darlington bypass, Tornado Way, when he was spotted by police officers on patrol just after midnight on Halloween.

Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court heard last week how Ferreira, who has recently moved to London after living at an address in Willow Road East, Darlington, failed a roadside breath test.

John Garside, prosecuting, said: "Officers on mobile patrol describe the defendant's car as going from side to side on the road and going from lane to lane.

"They've stopped the vehicle and speak with the driver and his eyes are glazed and his words are slurred."

Ferreira was convicted of drink-driving in 2016 and his solicitor added there was "no real mitigation" to present to the magistrates.

The 46-year-old was banned from driving for three years, three months, and fined £415.

He must also pay £85 in court costs and £41 victim surcharge.
