DO you want to learn about how we cooked and what we ate during the First and Second World Wars?

The North Ayrshire Foodbank is giving locals the chance to find out about how food was severely rationed during both the 1st and 2nd World Wars.

Due to enemy action lots of essential foods were lost at sea and citizens were encouraged to do what they could by growing their own and making the best use of the food they could get – both by portion management as well as re-use in as many meals as possible.

Charlie Vallance, along with Darren Fisher and Jason Richardson, will be providing tasters of food from the 1st World War at their Veteran’s Day event this coming Saturday between 4-6pm.

Charlie will also be demonstrating the cooking of a recipe from the Wartime recipes book. To win a copy, of which there are three, all you have to do is complete a sheet nominating your favourite food item from those you tasted along with your name. All names will be drawn at the end of the film for the night at 8pm. Craig Crosthwaite from the Foodbank said: “We would love for you to stay throughout the afternoon having met our veteran agencies, heard our community choir and tasted the food. If you have any questions drop us an email at nafoodbank@btinternet.com or call 01294 601312 Mon-Fri between 10am to 2pm.”
