A KIND-HEARTED Saltcoats cafe will be opening its doors on Christmas Day for those who would otherwise be alone.

The Cafe @ the Station in the town’s Vernon Street decided to spread the Christmas cheer and invited along people who may not have anyone to enjoy Christmas Dinner with.

Susan, owner of the cafe, came up with the idea and she explained the thinking behind it, she said: “We have a lot of people who come in that don’t see anyone but us, they are regulars and on their own so we thought we could all have turkey together.”

Susan along with staff members Megan and Helen will be helping out on the day and locals have already started rallying behind the wonderful idea.

Susan added: “We have eight people signed up so far and another couple who are struggling for transport but people have been in touch to say they could pick them up, we have people handing things in like crackers, money and sweets. The community really is rallying around it.

“We’ve just had it confirmed that Santa be will there as well.”

There is no charge at all for those who are heading along and although there is space for around 30 people, Susan said that if the interest is there they will do more than one sitting.

There will also be a donation box there on Christmas Day with all proceeds going to the Church of the Nazerene.
