LOCALS are being invited to get involved with a ‘reverse advent’ campaign for the North Ayrshire Foodbank.

And a local woman has designed a reverse advent calendar so people know exactly what the foodbank need for their Christmas parcels.

Betty Valencia, a creative with local theatre company Capall Dorcha, created the calendar photographed and is keen to spread the message about giving back.

Betty told the Times: ““I had seen a few reverse advent calendars for other areas being shared on Facebook, and most of them said if you wanted to do one for your local food bank you should contact them first to see what they need most.

“I phoned North Ayrshire food bank to see if they had one, and they told me they had wanted to create one but with all their volunteering responsibilities they hadn’t been able to yet.

“I really wanted to help out however I could so I said if they sent me a list of what they needed I would create it for them in my own time. I knew how quickly it would have to get made in order for the food to be collected and delivered in time for Christmas, so I made it and sent it as soon as it was ready.

“Christmas is a time for giving, and I wanted to give back to my community and help those who need it most.”

Anyone taking part is asked to return their reverse calendar no later than December 21 to the North Ayrshire Foodbank within the Church of the Nazerene in Ardrossan.
