KILBIRNIE lit up on Saturday when the annual festive lights were turned on to the cheers of the crowd.

It turned out to be a great day for the town, with all sorts of events for young and old.

Santa was in his grotto in the Walker Hall for most of the day, where he later was joined by school choirs. A craft fayre was held in the hall as well.

And who better than Santa himself to turn on the Christmas lights at the Cross just after 5pm?

Events on the day also included a funfair, while Bridgend Community Centre showed a film in the afternoon.

Photographer John Keachie was there to capture some of the fun during the day. For more pictures of the event, see this week's Herald.
