A PENSIONER has died following an blaze at a house in Stevenston.
Shortly after 3pm on Tuesday, emergency services were called to the house in the town’s Garven Road after reports of a fire.
Four fire engines, police and ambulance personnel raced to scene and a 69-year-old woman was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital but sadly she later passed away.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 3.14pm on Tuesday, November 27 to reports of a dwelling fire in Stevenston.
“Operations Control mobilised four fire engines to the town’s Garven Road, where firefighters were met by a fire on the property’s ground floor.
“Crews extinguished the fire and thereafter left the scene.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 3.20pm on Tuesday, November 27, police received a report of a fire in Garven Road, Stevenston.
"Emergency services attended and a 69-year-old woman was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where she later died.
"Police and Fire Service held a joint investigation but the fire was not found to be suspicious."
