CONSIDERABLE damage has been caused to a corner of Ayr United's Somerset Park after a car crashed into the turnstiles.

Late last night, police were called after the car (pictured) crashed into the corner of the stadium on Somerset Road but the club confirmed that there would be no impact on Friday night's league clash against Inverness.

Police raced to the scene shortly after 10.30pm to the incident which involved just one vehicle but at this stage no charges have been brought forward and the cost of the repairs is not yet known.

A spokesperson for the club told the Advertiser: "A car crashed into the corner of Somerset Road at the turnstiles causing considerable damage to the walls and turnstiles.

"We have contingency plans in place for Friday so it will not impact the game.

"Building Control from South Ayrshire Council and a Structural Engineer will be here this morning (Wednesday) to investigate the damage.

"The cost to repair is not known at the moment."
