A SALTCOATS primary school has been commended for its fantastic inspection report.

Mayfield Primary School was praised by Education Scotland for producing happy and engaged pupils.

In each of the four key indicators – leadership; learning, teaching and assessment; raising attainment and achievement; ensuring wellbeing, equity and inclusion – both the school and early years were marked as very good.

In the report, it states that ‘children are confident and demonstrate independence skills as they learn through spontaneous and planned, purposeful play opportunities’

The Staff were also described as being a major strength of the school and integral to creating a high-quality learning experience.

The report also claims that strong leadership across both the early years and primary school – which has led to effective evaluation of the young people - has contributed to the very good progress in young people’s numeracy and literacy skills.

Head teacher David Faulds said: “This is an outstanding report and is testament to the dedication and hard work of all the staff in both primary and early years. A huge well done to all of them. They should be very proud of this achievement.

“A special mention must also go to our young people. They work really hard, are really engaged and interested in everything we do. They make it such a pleasure for all of us to come in every day. We are delighted that the report makes mention of the welcoming and inclusive environment as that is hugely important to us all.

“We are also very lucky to have such supportive parents and carers who contribute enormously to the success of the school.

“While this is a great report, please be assured none of us will be resting on our laurels. We will continue to strive to do the very best for our young people.”

Councillor John Bell, Cabinet member for Education and Youth Employment, added: “This is a fantastic report and its great to see another of our schools performing so well. The staff are clearly doing an excellent job in creating an environment that is helping our young people thrive.

“A huge well done to the whole school community.”
