Police are appealing for information after a pensioner was injured when a rock was thrown at a bus.

About 7.40pm last night (Thursday, December 13) a bus was travelling from Ardrossan to Kilmarnock along Saltcoats Road, Stevenston when a rock was thrown at the nearside of the vehicle, smashing the window and striking a 65-year-old woman to the head.

A spokesperson for Ayrshire Police Division said: “Local officers are continuing enquiries into this incident by reviewing all possible CCTV footage and speaking to potential witnesses. The female passenger was assessed by an ambulance at the scene - thankfully her injuries were only minor and she did not require any further treatment.

“Understandably the driver and other passengers on board the bus would have been left shaken by this incident - such a reckless action could have devastating consequences.

“I would appeal to anyone who knows who was responsible for this incident to please contact us.”

Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to contact police by calling 101 (in an emergency always dial 999). Information can also be passed via the independent charity CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.
