A blue-nose Kilwinning man is raising money in memory of his Rangers-supporting friend – with a Celtic event attended by a Hoops legend.

Lee Quinn is hosting An Evening with Lubo Moravcik as his latest fundraiser for the Scott Laughlan Together Fund. The dad of two set up the fund in memory of his best pal Scott who passed away aged 23 in 2016 after a battle with cystic fibrosis. Money raised for the fund, mostly through either Rangers or Celtic events, goes towards The Butterfly Trust and the Glasgow Children’s Hospital.

Lee said that holding Celtic-themed fundraisers reflected his late pal’s character of ‘including everybody’.

He said: “I’m a Rangers fan and Scott was a Rangers fan. I felt as though folk were missing out because they support different teams.

“We want to include everybody because that’s Scott’s character showing through. I decided early on I’m going to stick my neck out and do a Celtic event.

“I held up a big flag pitch side at Parkhead – a Saltire with ‘Scott Laughlan Together Fund’ on it. I did that with my friend Lee Higgins It was mainly to raise awareness of what we’re trying to do and football in the west coast of Scotland is a pretty big thing. Nobody expected to see me pitch side at Celtic Park!

“We also had a Lee McCulloch night that raised just over £2,000. We don’t do these big fancy dinners; I like it to be affordable, so everyone can come along.

“The Scott Laughlan Together Fund is a bit different because we work in aid of two charities. The main one is still the Butterfly Trust, but we’ve now also got the Glasgow Children’s Hospital charity. Scott spent a lot of time there when he was younger so it’s good to put something back.”

An Evening with Lubo Moravcik takes place at Ardrossan Civic Centre on February 23. See www.facebook.com/LaughlanTogetherFund for tickets.
