Scottish classical violin star Nicola Benedetti joined young North Ayrshire musicians on stage for a glittering Christmas Carousel Concert at Dalry Primary School on Thursday, December 20.

The world-renowned performer joined the North Ayrshire Schools Chamber Ensemble for a rendition of Bach’s Double Violin Concerto Movement 2, before playing the theme music from Schindler’s List with North Ayrshire Strings staff.

She then went on to wow the audience with a solo performance of Vittorio Monti’s Czardas.

North Ayrshire Schools’ Junior, Intermediate and Senior Concert Bands; Training, Junior and Senior Orchestras, and the North Ayrshire Schools’ Pipe Band with the Garnock Valley Pipes & Drums all featured in the festive show.

Councillor John Bell, Cabinet Member for Education and Youth Employment, said: “We would like to congratulate all of the talented young people who took part in the Christmas Carousel concert.

“Our Music Service works with these pupils week in, week out, and the fantastic performances from all of the bands is testament to the dedication of both our instructors and our musicians. They should be very proud of themselves for putting on such a wonderful show.

“To be joined by a performer of Nicola Benedetti’s calibre really was the icing on the Christmas cake for what was a fabulous night, and a night which our young band members and staff will remember for many years to come.”
