The latest Pensioners’ Christmas Lunch at Charlie’s Bar has been hailed as the best ever by its organiser.

Around 70 guests tucked into a delicious three-course meal at the Ardrossan pub’s event, which is organised every year by owners Billy and Molly Woods.

Billy said: “It was probably the best year so far. There were upwards of 65 people there. There was free wine, a three-course meal.

“They always enjoy themselves and they’re never any trouble. Everyone received a bottle of their choice and the ladies got chocolates. We also had a karaoke. It was an excellent day.

“It’s hard work [to organise] but it’s only once a year for the Christmas season and everybody enjoys themselves.”

The pub’s Christmas raffle will this year raise funds for a defibrillator and includes prizes such as a Smart TV, electric children’s car and festive hampers.

Thanking everyone who donated to the raffle, Billy said: “We have it every year and this time we’re raising money for a community defibrillator. It’ll be inside the bar, but it will be available to all in the community. People are becoming more aware about that sort of thing, they realise how much of a difference it can make. Any surplus left over [from the raffle money raised] will go towards James McFarlane.”

The raffle will be drawn at Charlie’s Bar on Boxing Night. Tickets are available at the bar.
