RESIDENTS in Stevenston were left holding their noses as communal bins were left spilling out on to the street.
Despite complaints over the festive period, the bins at St James’ Place and Morrison Court in the town weren’t picked up until the New Year, despite being full since before Christmas.
Usually the bins, pictured, are picked up every week but no explanation was offered as to why they were left in the state they are in.
One concerned local spoke out about their concerns.
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Herald: “They usually collect them every week because they are huge big communal bins. They are full of rubbish, it is everywhere.
“The mess really is a sight for sore eyes and it is absolutely filthy.
“It could attract vermin.
“We have phoned and complained to the council and they said it would be logged but it has been there since before Christmas.
A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson: “We apologise to the residents for this
inconvenience and can confirm that the bins have now been emptied.
“If your bin is missed on your collection day, please report it to us either via our website or by calling 01294 310000.”
