Kilwinning family's five generations - for second time

The McLaughlin family welcomed baby Lewis Bernard nine months ago - making history for the second time.

To celebrate the milestone the family - including Great Great granny Jean McLaughlin, 91, who lives in Pennyburn, her son and Great Grandad Pastor Bernie McLaughlin from Seamill, his son, Grandad Gary McLaughlin, who now lives in Australia, his daughter Kyla McLaughlin from Ardrossan, and baby Lewis , got together at the Seamill Hydro to mark the occasion.

Incredibly, the family celebrated the same feat 26 years ago when Gary’s son, Caleb was born. At that time the five generations were made up of Caleb, Gary, Pastor Bernie, Great, Great granny Jean and Jean’s dad, Ben McInulty, who has sadly since passed away.

Speaking of the special milestone, new grandfather Gary, 48, said: “It’s quite amazing really, to think we celebrated this very same thing when Caleb was born 26 years ago and now here we are again. We had a lovely day celebrating with the family.”

Great-great gran Jean has 10 children, 31 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and baby Lewis is her first great-great-grandchild.

Pastor Bernie’s wife, Nan says when the family all get together there is more than 100 people in the room.

She said: “We got together last year for Jean’s 90th birthday and we had to hire a full hotel. There is just so many of us, it’s quite incredible.

Jean has so many great grandchildren now I think she has actually lost count, but Lewis is her first great-

great-grandchild.”

Gary has since returned to Australia but will be back in Scotland in the summer when the family’s first five-generation baby, Caleb, who lives in Dallas, gets married.
