NEWLY published plans confirm that Ardrossan's North Shore is the preferred site for a new Ardrossan Academy - and the school will incorporate Ardrossan library and the swimming pool and gym from Auchenharvie Leisure Centre in Stevenston

Last year the Herald revealed that North Ayrshire Council were looking at the former Shell site to house the new campus for the ageing school but plans show a number of radical changes to the landscape of the Three Towns, including the closure of Winton Primary and moving the pool and fitness suite from Harvie's.

Estimated to cost the council in the region of £31.5million, the funds are set aside for the council's capital plan from 2024 with additional funding being saught from the Scottish goverment's £1billion programme which will be available from next year.

A new Ardrossan Library could also be housed in the campus and there will be sizeable engagement with the community.
