POLICE are re-appealing for any witnesses to come forward following the robbery of a 90-year-old woman in Saltcoats yesterday afternoon.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for information after an elderly woman was robbed in the Saltcoats area of Ayrshire on Tuesday 15 January 2019.

Around 11.50am the woman left Windmill Amusements in the town centre to walk to a relative’s house.

She walked along Chapelwell Street and as she went to enter the grounds of the Heritage Centre in Manse Street she was followed by a woman, who was not known to her.

The woman pushed the pensioner to the ground before running off with her handbag into the car park at the rear of the Salt Cot pub, towards the town centre.

The suspect is described as around 20-years old, of slim build, with dark hair. She was wearing dark coloured clothing.

Detective Constable Jason Buxton from Saltcoats CID said: “I would appeal to anyone who was within the car park at the rear of the pub around 11.55am yesterday, and may have noticed a woman matching the above description, to please get in touch.

“I would also ask any motorists with dashcams who were in the vicinity, or even parked in the carpark, to please check their footage in case they may have captured anything which could be of significance.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Saltcoats CID via 101, quoting incident number 1281 of Tuesday 15 January 2019. Alternatively you can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.”
