A NATIONAL housing developer has welcomed the decision to grant planning permission for nearly 100 new homes in Saltcoats.

Persimmon Homes West Scotland lodged a planning application with North Ayrshire Council on October 25.

The proposals included the development of new homes ranging from two-bedroom terraced up to five-bedroom detached properties.

The overall development will include an anticipated investment of £13 million that will regenerate the area transforming the seven acre parcel of former agricultural land on the Northern edge of the town of Saltcoats.

Doug Law, managing director of Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said: “This latest decision determined just before Christmas is the next step in the planning process and we look forward to starting on-site in mid-2019 subject to detailed technical approvals.

“Having successfully built new homes in the Sharphill area of the town in 2006 we know that the location is appealing to buyers and we look forward to working in the area again.”

In addition to the much-needed new homes available for private sale the wider development will offer an element of affordable housing that will be delivered by Cunningham Housing Association following the submission of their separate planning application.

Doug added: “The development of new homes has the added benefit of generating jobs and boosting the local economy and we are excited to move the project forward.”
