The Scottish Wildlife Trust is looking for volunteers to help with a clean up in Stevenston as part of a project to engage communities with nature.

The charity’s Ayrshire branch is holding its third Kerelaw Glen community clean up as part of the Heritage Lottery funded project, Connecting Communities to Nature in Ayrshire.

Harry Richards from the Scottish Wildlife Trust said: “I’m a local lad and grew up playing in and around Kerelaw Castle and the burn. It’s a wee hidden gem and its heart-breaking to see it in such a state.

“The idea is to get the local community to help remove the litter and debris and then hopefully local people will continue to keep it clean and tidy, both for wildlife and for local people to go there and have a wander around.

“We feel it’s important to get children involved and interested in nature and especially in their local environment.”

The clean up is on Sunday, January 20 from 11am-1pm. Tools and gloves will be provided. Meet at the bridge beside Kerelaw Castle.
