A NEW book by a Saltcoats author has been released and he is hoping it is as popular as his debut.

‘Hugo’ is the follow up to Scott Alcroft’s ‘The Bunnet’ and he explained all about the latest instalment, he told the Herald: “Hugo is one of the characters from “The Bunnet” and fans of that book were left wanting to know more about his character so I decided to do a spin off.

“The book is set in the 1990s and Hugo finds himself not long out of jail with not much in the way of job prospects. Getting a job as a convicted drug smuggler isn’t an easy thing so Hugo reverts back to type and takes on another smuggling job.

“His task is to drive a Ford Cortina packed full of drugs to the Costa Del Sol for which he’ll receive £10,000.

“All doesn’t go to plan though and Hugo inadvertently takes over the drugs trade down there instead.

“Follow Hugo as he gets involved in violence, murder, love, corruption, drugs and prostitution. This book also has references to “The Bunnet” in it too and all comes together nicely.”

Scott’s debut novel received great support from his hometown and businesses locally gave up profits in order to support charities with proceeds from the sales.

Scott added: “The Bunnet really took off in the Three Towns. Lots of individuals supported me and so did lots of local businesses.

“It was amazing to see everybody come together over a wee book. I think the most pleasing thing for me was that every single one of the local businesses sacrificed profit for charity by donating £2.50 for every book sold to local charities.

“We managed to raise money for the North Ayrshire Food Bank, Sam’s Angels, a charity for bereaved children, homeless and Alzheimers charities too. I couldn’t have done any of this without the help of my friend Donna McGregor and other local Ladies from ‘The Bunnet Book Club’. Yes, The Bunnet has it’s own book club it got that popular.”

Both books are available on Amazon Kindle and Paperback priced at £5.99 and £9.99 respectively and Scott added: “Finally I’d just like to thank everybody from the Three Towns for all your support. I’ve been totally overwhelmed by it all to be honest. If ‘Hugo’ gets half of the adulation that ‘The Bunnet’ got then I’ll be delighted.”
