AN Ardrossan man has hit out at potential plans to move Ardrossan Academy to the North Shore and says other sites should be considered.

78-year-old George Phillips was born and bred in the town and reacted to the plans revealed last week.

George said: “I am not happy at all. “I hope that this will not be under PPP and I want to know why sites that have been empty for a long, long time have not been looked at.

“The local government should be looking at the old Quarrier’s School on the way out of Ardrossan, the old Central School and the old Stanley site across the road which could be used as some sort of annex. The Stanley site is an eyesore and needs something done with it.”

“I had uncles that worked at the Shell Mex site and they would tell me what a site it was. There was talk of Japanese Knotweed on there and that takes time and effort to get rid of.

“I just want answers to the questions that Campbell Martin has asked on many occasions.

“I was born and bred in Glasgow Street and have seen a lot of changes, sometimes for the good, sometimes not so good and I have spoken to one or two councillors about this. This has been a long time coming but we need to get this right and the right consultation is needed.”
