There was music and merriment at Mayfield Primary’s Burns Supper last week.
The event, which took place at the Saltcoats school on Friday, February 1 and saw parents attend, was a musical celebration of Scotland’s Bard.
Pupils were introduced to the cello by musical specialist, Mr Costa. They also welcomed professional piper, Jim Butler, who piped in the haggis at the start of the supper.
The senior pupils have been studying Robert Burns in class and the event was a chance to showcase all they had learned in front of their parents.
Ashley Watt, P7 teacher at Mayfield Primary, said of the supper: “It’s a celebration of Burns, showing what the children have been learning about him. They’ve been learning Burns poetry and Scottish songs in class.
“The former principle teacher, Mrs Breen, has been back helping the kids with their pronunciation of Scots and Burns poems.
“There was an invitation for the parents to come along and see what the kids have been learning.”
Well done to all involved.
