A YOUNG woman grabbed a 13-year-old girl by the hair and pulled her to the ground in an Ardrossan street.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pled guilty to the October 1 assault at Kilmarnock Sher iff Cour t last week.

The court heard that at around 8.30pm on October 1 of last year, a 13-year-old girl was walking towards Glasgow Street with her friends when the accused and another female came running up behind them. The accused was shouting at the girl and getting quite close to her, which caused the young teen to push her away.

The 17-year-old then pulled the girl by the hair, dragging her to the ground and tried to strike her head on the tarmac. The child managed to get up and again pushed the accused away to stop her hitting her head off the ground. She made two other attempts to attack her.

The accused also admitted to theft by shoplifting and to behaving in a threatening manner towards police.

Sheriff Michael Hanlon called for reports.
