Pupils from 19 primary and secondary schools across North Ayrshire took part in an event at Saltcoats Town Hall for Safer Internet Day.

From rapping to live drama, posters to short films, the youngsters spread the internet safety message in a number of entertaining ways, ensuring a tough decision for the judging panel.

The prize for the Best Presentation went to Irvine’s Loudoun Montgomery Primary for their BBC news broadcast-style film. Second were Largs Academy, who performed an excerpt from a play with the theme of ‘respecting yourself and others online’. Mayfield Primary in Saltcoats were third for their safety-focused cover of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme, complete with music video. A fun quiz also saw a well-earned victory for Kilwinning’s Abbey Primary.

Organised by North Ayrshire Council’s Education and Youth Employment directorate, the event also saw the launch of the council’s internet safety pledge – Smarter, Safer Schools – which schools were encouraged to sign up to on the day.
